Direct messaging is the primary way buyers and sellers communicate on Acquirly. All messages are handled through the platform to keep your conversation organised and secure.
How to Start a Conversation With a Seller
Conversations on Acquirly start with an offer. There is no separate contact button: your first offer on a listing opens a private conversation with the seller, and everything after that stays in the same thread.
- Open the listing page for the startup you're interested in.
- Click Make an Offer and submit your offer. Use the terms field for your introduction and first questions.
- The seller is notified and can reply, counter or respond to the offer from their dashboard.
- Carry on the conversation from Messages in your dashboard.
An offer is not a binding commitment, so it is fine to open with a price you want to discuss. See how to make an offer.
Before You Can Message
To start a conversation, you need:
- A buyer account with a verified email address
- An active listing to make an offer on
You do not need to sign the listing's NDA first, though many buyers do so they can review the confidential documents before naming a price.
What to Include With Your First Offer
A strong opening message significantly increases your chance of getting a response. Include:
- A brief introduction — who you are and your acquisition background
- Why you're specifically interested in this business
- Your most important 2–3 questions
- Your timeline and seriousness of intent
Avoid generic messages like "I'm interested, please share more information." Sellers receive many enquiries and prioritise buyers who demonstrate genuine knowledge of the business.
Response Times
Sellers are encouraged to respond within 48 hours. If you haven't received a reply within 3–4 days, it's fine to send a brief follow-up.
Keeping Communication on Platform
We ask that all material conversations happen within Acquirly's messaging system. This protects both parties and ensures a record of all communications if needed. Sharing contact details early in the process is not required and is generally discouraged.
Can I Message Multiple Sellers?
Yes. You can make offers on as many listings as you like, and each one has its own private conversation with that listing's seller.
